Bled is one of the most photogenic places in Slovenia and if you are lucky enough to catch the sunrise on a foggy day, you will be awarded with spectacular views. I arrived very early that day since I wanted to make some night panoramas also, and not just the sunrise.
As the sunrise was approaching the fog started to thicken and I was afraid all I would see that day is fog.
Fortunately the conditions were changing rapidly so I managed to get some very nice shots of the sun penetrating the fog and creating a beautiful golden color of the water and the mist.
Ducks are your loyal companions when you are taking photographs at lake Bled, it’s almost impossible not to see them. They will always come to greet you and to check if you have some food for them.
For a moment the island started to appear from the mist.
And the next moment it disappeared in the fog again. However the fog created some spectacular light instead. What do you see in the image below?
A look to the left revealed that the castle on the cliff is already out of the fog and the mountain above is nicely lit in the sunrise.
I was waiting impatiently for the island to appear again and maybe show slightly more of the island and the church on it. The sun was already very high so the light is very strong and hard to manage with the camera. The image below has an amazing contrast, the left part of the lake was already fog free, but on the right side the fog was still thick and thus creating this amazing double color effect.
The image above looks really hectic and is one of my favorite shots from this morning. It looks like the church is burning.
On my way back to the car I spotted a girl running into the fog on the pier right next to the water. I think the composition works great here, perfectly balanced from both sides.
A quick glance to the island from the pier once again revealed a beautiful blue and yellow contrast of the scene.
I decided that I want to see how this scene looks from the castle, but I arrived a bit too late and the fog was almost gone.
Bled is a beautiful place to visit in any season but I think it looks the best in winter when everything is covered in snow and the lake is frozen. So stay tuned :).
