Slemenova Spica is one of the most popular hills amidst spectacular Julian Alps. It is a wonderful grassy viewpoint close to our highest road mountain pass – Vršič. The starting point is very high, the path is simple and not too long, towering walls and incredible views surround us throughout. A trip for everyone who wish to feel the beauty and the might of Slovene mountains with relatively small effort.
I already paid a visit to Slemenova Spica around 2 weeks ago, but the larches were not yet golden. For me the most beautiful time to visit Julian Alps is in October, when larches reflect beautiful golden light. I started hiking very early as I wanted to get there about an hour before the sunrise to catch some stars.
My favorite part of the day is a few minutes before the sunrise, as the sky has soft pink and purple shades.

Slemenova Spica is a very popular view point in the Julian Alps so you are rarely alone.
View from the top over to the other side to the Tamar valley. Right where the fog starts is Planica, the famous ski center with the biggest ski jumping hill in the world.

This is my favorite shot of the trip. The ice is just starting to melt and the golden reflections of the larches are spectacular.

It was still early in the morning when I decided I had enough of the golden landscape and started heading toward a white one. But first I had to descend towards Vrsic mountain pass.
Mojstrovka is easily accessible from the south side and I was at the top in less than an hour. The view at the top was totally worth it.

Sun and the golden color of the larches best represent this trip. If you have some free time in October I highly recommend taking a trip to Slemenova Spica on a sunny day. You will not regret it.
