A few weeks ago, in the early morning, I just felt restless. I wanted to work, but I just had to get out of the house. It was a cold and foggy morning, but I decided to go for a long walk anyway. I called a friend to join me, packed up my camera and call out to my best friend, my dog Bailey. He was excited and running around like crazy, because he got used to being at home with me and just sleeping by my side when I work.
When we got to Sobec, a little camp near Bled, the fog lifted and the sun begun to shine. When I was taking some photos of the water, my friend started playing with my dog. Because of his beautiful black fur, he stood out from the snow covered background.
He is a border collie mix. I fell in love with border collies the minute I saw one. But because I always wanted to rescue a dog from a pound, I searched the yellow pages if any similar looking dog needs a new home. And I was lucky, because a little pup from a border collie mother and father’s breed unknown, was looking for a new home. The next day I went to see him and it was love at first sight. He came home with me.
He was a playful and stubborn puppy. He did not obey a thing and chewed everything he got his little sharp teeth on. We had to move to a bigger apartement with a garden and he was really happy there. I played with him every day for hours and trained him. When he got back in the appartment he jumped straight into the bath tub, lifted every paw so I could clean him.
He loves his toys, as especially his frisbee. Fetch is his favorite game and he can play for hours.
I moved a lot, but he did not mind, he only needed to be beside me. The most difficult time for him was, when I moved back to my parents, when I was between homes and he had to stay with our other dog in the basement. He was just miserable. But now he is with me when I work and he follows me around all the time. This foggy and cold morning day made me remember and realize of how much I love my dog and whatever is happening in my life I want him to be there with me.
